Fely's Record 52 Points Propels Riverhawks Past Yaks 83-66
PASCO, Wash. – Brooklyn Fely broke the NWAC Women's Basketball Championship tournament scoring record with 52 points, leading the Umpqua Riverhawks 83-66 over Yakima Valley to open the women's tournament, presented by Golf Universe, on Friday at Columbia Basin College.
Fely was unstoppable for the Riverhawks (26-4) who entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed out of the tough South Region. Fely went 23-for-35 overall, adding 17 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. She broke the tournament record formerly held by Riverhawk alum Dajanay Powell who scored 47 in a tournament game in 2018.
Fely's teammate Amaya Afatasi had 13 assists as she tied two former Riverhawks in Laura Graham (1988) and Alyssa Grenfell (2018) for the tournament record. Rachel Noyce had 12 rebounds and a pair of blocks for UCC.
The Yaks (14-12) stayed in the ball game with their three-point shooting as they took 44 attempts, knocking down eight triples. They also got to the free-throw line 24 times as they made 14 attempts. Paris Wilson had a strong game for the Yaks with 25 points and five rebounds, as she made four three pointers. Alina Sapilak had 22 points.
The Riverhawks move onto the Elite 8 round of the tournament, where they will await the winner of Peninsula and Centralia for matchup on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Holden Court.
