Treasure Valley Advances to First-Ever Final with 3-1 Win Over Edmonds

PASCO, Wash. — The Treasure Valley volleyball team will play for its first-ever NWAC title as they defeated Edmonds in four sets (28-26, 22-25, 25-15, and 25-23) in the semifinal of the 2025 NWAC Volleyball Championship on Saturday at Columbia Basin College.

The Chukars have already made history this weekend as they reached their first-ever Final Four, but will compete for their first NWAC Championship on Sunday against Bellevue. Treasure Valley used an impressive hitting performance from sophomore's Katelyn Markley and Karly Clark, who each reached 20 plus kills in the match to defeat Edmonds.

Treasure Valley and Edmonds engaged in a tightly contested first set. The set featured several lead changes, with Clark playing a pivotal role, contributing numerous kills, including a decisive one at the end of the set. Katelyn Markley also added significant points for TVCC, finding success with assists from Naomi Shipley. The Chukars trailed by as many as seven points in the set, but rallied late to take the lead over the Tritons. Edmonds, led by Haley Yost and supported by Abby Barrow's assists, tied the score at 25-25. However, the Chukars secured the set 28-26 with Clark's consecutive kills.

Treasure Valley started the second set with a strong 3-0 lead, highlighted by kills from Karly Clark and Kynnsington Bandley. Despite an early advantage, Edmonds capitalized on several attack errors from TVCC players, allowing the Tritons to close the gap. This time it was Edmonds' turn to comeback as, after trailing 22-18, they scored seven-straight points to take the set 25-22 and even the match score.

In the third set, the Chukars took control early with a burst of offensive activity, beginning with a kill by Bandley. They extended their lead to 5-1 as Markley and Shipley each contributed kills. Edmonds managed to narrow the gap to 6-4, but TVCC responded with a series of attacks led by Clark and Shipley to make it 12-7. Despite some resistance from the Tritons, Treasure Valley maintained their momentum. Markley continued to capitalize on Edmonds' errors, and a decisive kill by Ella Leishman from Shipley sealed the set at 25-15.

The Chukars secured a hard-fought victory in the final set, edging Edmonds 25-23. Markley played a pivotal role, contributing multiple key kills, including one at 24-22 that pushed the Chukars to set point. Despite a late push from the Tritons, fueled by kills from Yost and Barrow, TVCC maintained their lead. The set concluded with another decisive kill by Markley, again assisted by Shipley, sealing the win for Treasure Valley.

Markley and Clark were not only dominant offensively, but they also contributed across the board as six rotation players. Clark had a match-high 34 digs, adding three total blocks. Markley also tallied 24 digs along with her 25 kills, highlighting her dual impact in both offensive and defensive roles. Shipley played a pivotal role as the primary setter, amassing 46 assists, which facilitated the team's offensive efforts. Olivia Fischer was a key defensive presence, contributing 15 digs, further solidifying the backcourt for the Chukars.

Yost was once again a standout player for Edmonds, contributing significantly with 21 kills and 21 digs. Alondra Zambrano showcased her defensive skills with 19 digs, making her a key player in the backcourt. Jayda-Lee Kaeo also played a vital role in defense, recording 27 digs, the highest on the team.

The Chukars will next face Bellevue in the NWAC Championship match on Sunday at 3 p.m. Edmonds moves to the Third Place Match and will play Rogue at 12 p.m.
